ASCE Student Chapter, DUET had organized a field trip program on 2nd September 2023.
We tried to capture the footpath scenario of Gazipur Sadar.
Is it a walkable city???
What are the solutions to this issue?
We require a national walkway policy in
Bangladesh. This rule's basic tenet might be as
straightforward as this: whenever there is a
road, there must also be a usable footpath. The design of footpaths should be a top
priority in all types of urban planning, from
large cities to small communities. It must be a legal necessity in cities. As the foundation of walkable urbanism,
footpaths, and sidewalks are currently experiencing a
global urban revival. Urban planning's subfield of "walkability
studies" is expanding.
This is not to suggest that walkways are just
for people's enjoyment of safety and beauty. Additionally, it has to do with business
friendliness and environmental protection. "We must comprehend that the walkable city is not just a nice, idealistic notion," Speck says. Instead, it is a straightforward, doable solution to a variety of complex societal issues, issues
that daily threaten the economic
competitiveness, welfare, and environmental
sustainability of our country.
